The Menopause Transition!
So many women I’ve talked to see menopause as an ending. But I’ve discovered this is your moment to reinvent yourself after years of focusing on the needs of everyone else. It’s your opportunity to get clear about what matters to you and then to pursue that with all of your energy, time and talent — Oprah Winfrey
Menopause can feel a confusing and tumultuous time – but it doesn’t need to be a negative season for women. In this latest episode of the Rocking Midlife® Podcast, I’m joined by the very lovely Dr Cari Schaefer who explains how menopause doesn’t have to be the end of your life, but rather, is a season of transition into freedom that you might not have expected.
Dr. Cari Schaefer, DACM is the founder of Wise Woman Emerging, a platform “midwifing” woman through the menopausal change. As a women’s healthcare provider, lecturer, and teacher on health and nutrition and author of the Amazon best-selling book, “The Food Solution, for over 23 years, Dr. Cari has helped thousands of people identify and remove the barriers blocking them from feeling their best. Her vision is to restore women with the empowerment of this phase of life, lost in our current culture, and help them find the optimal mental, spiritual and physical balance she knows is possible.
During our interview, Dr Schaefer shares her wealth of knowledge about the physical, mental and emotional changes that accompany menopause, and how understanding them can be crucial to navigating this stage in your life. We also discuss how important it is to recognize the power of choice when it comes to managing the uncomfortable symptoms.
Recounting her own story of hearing at a medical conference that all women should get on to bioidentical hormones and basically keep bleeding into their senior years, Dr Cari was horrified and determined to find better ways to support women as they undergo their own, unique menopause transitions. Hence, she now combines her knowledge of Eastern and Western medicine, nutrition and more, to help menopausal and perimenopausal clients work through symptoms such as:
- Insomnia
- Anxiety
- Claustrophobia
- Hot flushes
- Weight gain
- Night sweats
- Confused thinking
And so many more!
