Alison is a fabulous lady who was a delight to interview! She is the author of Daily Inspiration for Midlife Women – A Guide to Peace, Joy, Confidence and Abundance. as well as a podcast host, speaker and a coach.
We had so many similarities in our personal missions of wanting to encourage women to embrace their lives with joy and passion in their midlife season. In Alison’s case, her joy has been hard won, as she has faced some gut-wrenching, pivotal moments in her life, including losing her first son to sudden infant death syndrome then her second son having intellectual disabilities. She did this largely as a single parent after her marriage ended with a nasty divorce which left this once high-flying lady at the top of her well-paid career, broke and declaring bankruptcy. Later, she met a wonderful man, a pro golfer who she married. Unfortunately, four weeks after their marriage, he was diagnosed with primary progressive multiple sclerosis. Alison is now a caregiver for her husband, her son, and now her mother too who also lives with her.
It could be easy to feel crushed under the weight of any of those experiences, however Alison chose instead to reinvent herself. She worked hard and has now created an amazing coaching and consulting business, helping midlife women, especially in the area of financial literacy.
During our conversation, Alison shared some practical gems of wisdom that every midlife woman should know in regards to her finances, including the importance of learning to enjoy paying your bills, (I know – what a concept!) being real about where your money is going and if you are in a relationship, ensuring you have access to ALL accounts and passwords!
